Dragon's Lair

Dragon's Lair

Loosely based on BBC television’s “Dragon’s Den”, Dragon’s Lair is a hugely enjoyable and challenging team-building game. As in the television show, you and your team will get the chance to pitch ideas for new products and services to our formidable and hilarious collection of “Dragons” (investors). Your aim is to persuade them to give you all their money!

The game is designed so that everyone is involved and, at any moment, any team member can be invited to contribute. In a relaxed and fun environment, we’ll give your communication and powers of concentration a helpful overhaul – and test your ability to work successfully as a team.

Various “extras” are thrown in to keep everyone interested and the event concludes with the teams bidding for various “new inventions” in an auction. The true value of any item they bid for will be added to any cash they have left over and the team that’s richest will be the winners. Prizes are given to the winning team and to the individual who has impressed us most.

By the end of this game, even the fiercest dragon will take on an entirely new animal form: the pussycat!

Suitable for groups of 10 – 30 people.

Additional Information

Prior to the Event

We will need to know from you in advance how many people will be taking part and to decide with you the number of teams. A main room is needed where everyone can gather for an initial briefing and be sorted into their teams. Providing the room is large enough, everything can happen in it. Some activities can take place in break-out rooms, if there are any. Each team will need a table to work at and sit round. Our “dragons” will need chairs and a space will be needed in front of them where the teams pitch their ideas from.

On the Day

The actors will arrive at least an hour before the event is due to start. These timings are only meant as a guideline. The exact timings and running order will vary with each event.

1730hrs – Introduction

When the guests have arrived, the actors join them. People are put into teams and each team comes up with a company name for themselves. The names they have chosen are heard then the organisers explain that they’ll be getting them to pitch ideas for a new product or service to the “dragons”, who will then decide how much money they may want to invest.

1800hrs – The Challenge

The teams are given time to prepare then someone from each team is asked to step forward and is given an object. They must use the object in their pitch but it doesn’t have to be the subject of it. Everyone in the team must be involved somehow in the pitch and be willing to answer any questions thrown at them.

The dragons question them and decide how much they want to invest. Before they reveal this, the teams not pitching are invited to say how much they would invest if they were the dragons.

The whole process is then repeated, with some changes. (Usually, the teams are changed at this point but, if preferred, they can remain the same throughout. The main change is that, this time, there is a “lucky dip” for each team. This gives them an object, the area of business their company is involved in (sportswear, DIY, pharmaceuticals, tourism, etc.) and a key phrase that they must seamlessly weave into their pitch (“the beauty is in the handling”, “research shows that 99% of all our customers really love the taste”, “to date, no fatalities have been reported,” etc.).

1915hrs – The Conclusion

Teams use the money the dragons have invested in their company to bid for certain “new inventions” in an auction. The true value of any item they bid for will be added to any cash they have left over and the team that’s richest will be the winners. But, to qualify, they must have succeeded in buying at least one item in the auction. Prizes are given to the winning team and to the individual who has impressed most. The end!
