Circus Skills

Circus Skills

Why Circus Skills?

You will try things you never imagined trying, achieving things you didn’t expect to and learn skills that you will never forget.

Taking part in circus skill events is a highly enjoyable and experiential way for teams & individuals to develop important team skills that apply to all walks of life, from business to personal, social to fun. In an atmosphere of terrific fun they can discover new ways of learning, gain better communication abilities, develop stronger mutual support and respect for each other, as well as learning how to juggle, walk on stilts and build human pyramids!

Here’s How:

  • They build confidence and self-esteem and develop teamwork.
  • They create an environment where participants can intermingle and network.
  • They allow men and women of all ages and ability to excel equally.
  • They involve both the left and right side of the body and the brain to greatly improve learning abilities.
  • They help people to deal with fear, react to the unexpected and plunge into the next challenge with confidence.
  • By their very nature the whole learning experience is highly enjoyable, resulting in a very fun team-event for everybody involved.
  • All of the activities inherently require teamwork to achieve the given learning goals.

Our team building days are great fun and also great levellers where all the participants start on the same footing having not learnt circus skills previously. Within this workshop participants will literally support and encourage each other through each stage of the learning process, whilst sharing a common team goal.

Circus skills are inherently co-operative, as many activities are totally dependent on mutual co-ordination and support. This helps to build a culture of trust and team spirit that allows everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable, despite taking on activities that they have never thought they could achieve.

Everyone works in small teams allowing them to observe and learn from people within their own team. As each team progresses they will develop a better understanding of themselves, of others and the importance of teamwork.

The positive, dynamic attitude of the trainers and the lively exhilarating atmosphere combine to create a truly inspiring & memorable learning experience.

The Activities

Acrobatic Balancing

Acrobatic-balancing is about working as a team to build amazing human structures and pyramids. Participants are encouraged to literally put their trust into each other’s hands and to physically support each other. The process is by nature about communication and building an alliance based on trust. By learning acrobatic balancing the participants will see how motivating each other and capitalising on each other’s strengths can help them achieve amazing results. The skills taught in this session progressively builds up the participants’ confidence and abilities resulting in achieving a team objective of building a giant human pyramid at the end of the workshop.

Juggling

The process of learning to juggle is used as a metaphor for many aspects of business life from keeping all of the balls in the air at once to juggling multiple tasks. Here, participants will be discovering techniques for learning any new skill, for example how to break tasks down into more manageable goals and how by working together they can achieve amazing results. Juggling is usually seen as an individual skill, but within this workshop the emphasis is on group juggling. Because of this we will actively encourage participants to inspire each other through capitalising on each other’s abilities and working together to keep all of those balls in the air at the same time.

Stilt Walking

Learning how to use stilts is like re-discovering how to walk. There is a small degree of risk, but by working together to support those first few tentative steps confidence is built up very quickly and a new skill is found. This is a skill that the support of colleagues is required in a literal sense to help find their footing in a new and unknown environment. A great metaphor for what it feels like to be thrown into new tasks and how with the right kind of team support new heights can be reached.

Tight-Wire Walking

To walk the tightrope requires great balance, rhythm and an ability to stay focused at all times. Participants physically support each other initially as they attempt to walk the wire and find their footing. The tight wire is set at half a metre off the ground and to get all the way across is one of the greatest challenges that requires technique, good balance and ultimately a high level of concentration to focus on the end goal.

Human Pyramid

At the end of the workshop we bring all of the participants together to create one giant human pyramid. Depending on the number of participants the pyramid can take many forms from being small, but high, to huge and long.

A fantastic way to end a highly successful and enjoyable team-day, which also makes a great team-photo!

Health & Safety

We take into account that many people are not of optimum fitness and ensure there are non-athletic as well as athletic options within our workshops. All of our workshops are taught at the appropriate level according to individual fitness and by doing so we have safely taught corporate customers of all ages from 18 to 65 and also people with medical conditions / previous injuries and disabilities. Highly experienced teachers and performers that regularly teach at The Circus Space lead all course activities.

Circus activities involve some danger so the courses take place in an environment of maximum safety, which includes the use of safety equipment in certain activities. Through our careful and considered approach we work to ensure that your staff remember the day for their successes.

What to Wear

Participants will need to bring comfortable clothing such as tracksuit bottoms, T-shirts & trainers. Please note that the following types of clothing are unsuitable for some circus skills and may restrict movement: jeans, trousers with belts, chinos, combat trousers or trousers with pockets on legs, and shorts. Some activities are done barefoot; participants can wear socks in this instance as long as they take care when moving across the floor. All participants must remove any jewellery before undertaking the workshop.
