Event Details
Here’s what actually happens on a Beat the Clock teambuilding event
Your guests return to the conference room to find it transformed! Around the edges of the room is all manner of equipment for tasks. Sitting proudly in the middle of each table there is a large numbered box and team pack…
Our presenter bounds onto the stage and announces that you are about to attempt to Beat The Clock! After being separated into teams and run through the simple premise of the game: score as many points as you can, by completing challenges of your choice – the clock starts ticking.
Some teams will dash straight off to identify the famous celebrities or company logos on the display boards; others will find the pump and modelling balloons in their ‘treasure chest like’ team box and begin with a haphazard attempt at twisting a poodle. Others will flip open their team pack, containing the rules, instructions and information for every one of the 150 plus challenges on offer, to plan their attack.
An important choice must be made at every task; each one is split into 3 levels of difficulty, of which the team may only attempt one. If you succeed at a harder challenge you’ll score more points, but is it worth the risk?
Teams will frantically vie for the attention of the Scoring Marshalls (our crew members) to hand in answers or perform tasks. Meanwhile, at the front of the room the big screen showing the digital clock keeps ticking down and the totals on the live scoreboard keep going up.
As the final five minutes of game play approach, the live scores disappear. The clock keeps ticking. The suspense builds, as nobody knows who is leading anymore.
The final ten-second countdown begins. Mayhem ensues. Furiously teams try to complete the challenges they have started before the clock hits zero and the siren and flashing lights go off. Then it’s too late: it’s all over.
The teams return to their tables, still trying to catch their breath, as the Score Master adds the final scores onto the, still hidden, leaderboard. The presenter builds up the tension one last time before revealing the winning team to triumphant applause.
What makes Beat the Clock such a successful activity ?
Beat The Clock is fun, competitive and extremely high energy. It can be set up and removed in a short time frame, allowing it to slot into a conference with minimal disruption either side – other than a switched on and motivated audience afterwards!
Unlike many teambuilding events the overall objective of Beat The Clock is so simple people can get into it straight away. There is no hanging around being told what to do, no sessions or hidden agendas to figure out: you open your ‘treasure chest’ and get on with it.
There is a role for everyone in your team. The expansive list of includes: creative, technical, mental, sensory, problem solving, general knowledge and physical tasks. Whether you keep up with current affairs, you’re an expert at origami or football – there are challenges for you in Beat The Clock.
Tasks are ordered in the Team Pack by type with descriptions making it easy to strategise and pick the challenges best suited to your team.
Benefits
What difference does it make back in the office to people who’ve taken part in Beat the Clock ?
Teams will realise that their strategy is absolutely key to success. Choices have to be made about whose skills will be most beneficial for the completion of each task.
Team members will learn more about each other and witness skill sets they may not have seen in their day to day working environment.
In the fun surroundings with the capable hands of the event crew your team members will relax, forget any office politics and break through any barriers that may have been in place before.
The result of the team’s experience is a major boost to motivation and an increased sense of unity and achievement.
Additionally, several of the tasks require the teams to get certain pictures on the digital cameras we supply (in the team box). The result is that you end up with hundreds of extra (and usually hilarious) photos of your day!
